In 2013, Julie Carey was introduced to ebook creation as an educational tool while teaching in Jakarta, Indonesia. She discovered Book Creator’s software that allowed for the use of both oral and written languages. As an English Language Acquisition educator, she recognized the potential for language development and preservation as well as cross-cultural connections on a global scale through ebook publishing in a collaborative library. In 2014, she joined forces with Caree Edson, a school programs coordinator serving Colorado’s refugee youth, to run a pilot project with both Navajo and refugee students. Together, with years of experience in both education and nonprofit, the pair formed Write Our World and received 501(c)3 determination in March of 2015.
Since then, Write Our World has delivered ebook creation workshops throughout Denver and Aurora, Colorado, as well as abroad in Guatemala, Cambodia and Brazil. This August, we are thrilled to release a beta version of our interactive website to be used by teachers worldwide through a membership structure. We invite all members, both Reading and Publishing, to provide us with feedback about our new resource so we might shape it to better meet the needs of multicultural youth worldwide.
We envision a world in which every child’s story matters.
To empower youth worldwide to preserve their languages and cultures while building skills for their future through ebook authoring.
